What happens when the enemy of your enemy is well evil?

It boggles my mind repeatedly how intellectuals of the left including students repeatedly fall into the same trap they have fallen into historically about supporting the enemy of their enemy.

First of all who is their enemy? Well nowadays nearly universally their enemy is Bush. Now I have no problem with Bush being your enemy, but please focus on that. Don’t go putting your support behind evil dictators like Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, because he occasionally (alright daily comes up with some Anti-Bush speach).

Chavez is now in the last stage of dismantling the democratic process in Venezuela. The students are marching unlike their US and European counterparts who love their dictator.

Chavez of course started the process this year of closing the private press and is on the second stage of the constitutional changes he needs to be king of Venezuela. He is even announcing his own Venezuelan Kristal nacht

“Imagine one million people marching over the east of Caracas and burning chaguaramo trees and palm trees. That million people would be us, not you, because you do not amount to one million people. The unpatriotic oligarchy would be razed to the ground.”

I know it’s not new for leftish intellectuals from the US and Europe to fall down the trap of supporting bloddy dictators. After all Stalin and Mao were pretty much untouchable in these circles until recently. Many social democratic leaders around the world in the 30’s were talking with much fascination of what lessons could be learned from mr. Hitler. (Yes, many people would like to forget that little fact).

So please, if you hate Bush, hate Bush. Don’t go supporting any old enemy of him as it might come back and haunt you one day.
