53% of Danes suffer from Stockholm Syndrome
February 16, 2006While the blogosphere is rife with pro Danish rhetoric (thanks all). The Danish press has been filled with studies showing that 53% of Danes want to apologize about the illustrious @:^# cartoons and institute self censor ship in the press (demand for self censorship==censorship). Basically they want to apologize and understand and like the people who are now abusing us throughout the world.
The largest focal point to this foolishness is Another Denmark. This site is just too stupid to believe. I believe it actually fuels the Imams arguments. I do believe in freedom of speech so I think it’s great that these idiots can publish a site like this (I also think it’s great that I am allowed to bitch about them without hanging).
Go read their Letter :
I wish to state the existence of another Denmark: a Denmark that wants to live in peace with the Muslim world. There is another Denmark, which hopes for and believes in respect and tolerance between religions and different groups of people. As a Dane I have no responsibility for what a single and privately owned Danish newspaper chooses to publish. Even so, I strongly condemn the actions of Jyllands-Posten that have offended Muslims around the world, and I understand the wish for an apology from the newspaper.
There in lies their flaw. There is no need to apologize for something that they did not do. Besides this whole saga of idiots killing each other in Pakistan and elsewhere has nothing what so ever to do with the Cartoons anymore (if it ever did).
What we are actually seeing is a collective case of Stockholm Syndrome where the victims sympathizes with the culprit. It is apparently a common psychological syndrome after a period of stress, so I guess this is what happens when you always have looked at yourself as the good guy and now some one says you aren’t.
But really lets be brutally honest here, is this not the same as a rape victim apologizing to her rapist because she wore provocative clothes? Yeah, so maybe it wasn’t a good idea to walk into that biker bar dressed like that, but that does NOT mean they had the right to rape you.
Update It turns out that the always excellent Lars Hvidberg had already written about this very same thing in Danish in Ud af skabet.
Comments:
Excellent title! Keep on rocking!
