Did Castro kill Allende?
September 27, 2005We have just learnt that Salvador Allende received $420,000 from KGB as an informant. Now comes a new French book by Alain Ammar Cuba Nostra which claims that Allende was taken out by his Cuban bodyguard Patricio de la Guardia on Castro’s orders, moments before he was going to surrender to Pinochet’s troups.
Supposedly Castro said:
If he is going to die, he should die as a hero. Any other stance, cowardly and not brave, would have grave repercussions for the fight en Latin America.
Early media reports confirm this, but the news was later hushed down as it served neither Pinochet nor the Communists. Ammar has this story via Patricio’s old drinking buddies, to whom he told the story many times.
Is this true or not, I don’t know, but it does sound plausible. If the book ever is translated to a non French language that I understand I will try to read it.
