Rebellion in Denmark

September 26, 2005

2 noteworthy and very much related events happened over the weekend in Denmark.

Firstly a Liberalist party was founded. Their main cause is a sub 40% flat tax. Secondly the Conservative party had a internal rebellion at their annual congress, where the Conservative Youth also pushed for a Flat Tax. 192 delegates voted for and 256 against. So it didn’t get passed, but I think both of them are a sign that the grassroots for the two governing “right wing” parties are unhappy about who call “Venstre and all the other Social Demokratic parties”.

I’m all for the idea of a new Liberalist party and I’m happy to see the rebellion going on in the Conservatives. However to get things moving we need to be more extreme. The problem with both cases is that people are two scared of the large unnamed electorate in Denmark. This reminds me of when the Danish Peoples Party (Dansk Folkeparti) won a strong part influencing part in Danish politics using their mixture of Social Democratic and Racist politics. They expressed what people rightly or wrongly were feeling (but all politicians were scared of saying out loud) and won big time.

Where is the Libertarian Pia Kjærsgaard (Danish People Party leader) who has the guts to call the bluff of the Socialkleptocratic policies of the current government.
