Banks can no longer deny foreigners accounts in Denmark

June 22, 2005

According to a judgement made by the Danish governments banking commision, Banks can not deny foreign residents accounts solely because they are foreign.

What this means is that as long as you can provide proof of address as well as identification you can now open an account in Denmark.

Banks have been notorious in the past 5 years to make it really difficult for foreigners opening accounts in most countries. So this is good news.

Denmark offers fairly stable banks with cheapish international transfers so this may be of use for some. I suspect you still need to stop by a branch to actually open the account.

Contrast this to Panama, where it is virtually impossible to open accounts without absurd amounts of documentation.
