A cornucopia of useful idiots

I live in a part of Copenhagen which is called Nørrebro. This much to my continuing annoyance has the greatest collection of what Lenin and Stalin called their Useful Idiots i have ever seen. Americans might think Berkeley and Cambridge are bad, but they look like a Republican national convention in comparison.

I constantly am afflicted with posters like this one promoting all manners of world histories worst dictators, terrorists and other flavors of mass murderers. Here was a new one for me. I’m used to the Che, Fidel, Sadam, Bin Ladin, Lenin, Stalin, Kim Il Jung and all the others, but it’s almost refreshing to see a poster for a terrorist who I thought was all but forgotten outside of Peru.

Abimael Guzmán was the guy who basically invented one of the most lunatic terrorist groups in modern time. A murderer who caused many deaths and helped put Peru into problems that they still haven’t gotten their way out of.

A great introduction to him is the movie The Dancer Upstairs by John Malkovitch which has a semi-fictional account of a policeman searching for the fictional version of him. The site GCI275 also has a great overview of it.

The real point of this though is that it still baffles me that this very vocal minority of “intellectuals” in this area manage to find the most out of place people to be useful idiots for.
